National Team Trials on Lake Banook

This coming weekend the canoe/kayak national team trials will be held on Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This regatta will be a qualifier for both senior level athletes looking to solidify a berth on the senior world championship team, as well as the deciding regatta for the junior world championship team as well.

Brian Krawetz: Looking At the 2009 Rugby Season

Born and raised in the small farming community of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Provincial coach Brian Krawetz played all sports, focusing mostly on hockey and football.

Being too young to play high school football and on the suggestion of his father, Brian first stepped onto the rugby pitch at age 14 with the Senior Men's North Battleford Bulldogs.

Brian continued to climb the ladder representing the SRU in provincial U17, U23 and Sr. Men's sides until his move to university where he fronted for the Saskatoon Gophers.

Fighting up, Excitement up, Ratings up - Hungary Down

It’s ironic, with all the talk there was this year about cutting back on fighting next season, who would have thought we would see such a dramatic increase in players taking their displeasure out by the way of the fist this playoffs.

 

While it may only be noticeable because last year was so noticeably opposite of this, the spike in fighting is astounding. With only 15 major penalties assessed throughout the entire post-season during the 2007-2008 playoffs, this seasons 25 after just the first round is leaving most wondering why so many people are “fighting” against this rugged brand of hockey.
